13 cases of blood clots recorded in people vaccinated in Germany

Our neighbors to the east have decided to suspend the use of this vaccine at the beginning of the week. According to authorities, twelve women and a man between the ages of 20 and 63 developed blood clots in the brain after being vaccinated. Three of them died.

In total, more than 1.6 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine have been administered in Germany. The number of cases of blood clot formation in vaccinated people reaches 0.0008%, which is higher than average.

Experts and opposition parties had expressed many criticisms in Germany after the suspension of the vaccine. They argued that given the small percentage of people who developed a blood clot, using the vaccine had more benefits than risks.

In addition, some believe that the country has entered a third wave of the pandemic, knowing that the number of cases – linked in particular to the British variant – is increasing again. In the past 24 hours, 17,504 new infections have been recorded, about 3,000 more than in the same period last week. Some 227 people have also died from the coronavirus in the past 24 hours.

Experts from the European Medicines Agency (EMA) are due to issue an opinion on Thursday on the possible links between the various cases of thrombosis observed in vaccinated people and the AstraZeneca vaccine.
