6 signs your baby is ready to crawl

When do babies start to crawl?

The most important rule to keep in mind is that babies begin to crawl when it is time in their natural developmental rhythm to do so. This means that they have to be prepared both physically and mentally. I am one of those dads who is constantly wondering if their babies are slow to crawl, sit up or any other movement. The good news is that there is absolutely no need to worry. You don’t have to compare your baby to others, as all babies have their own rate of development. Due to statistics, most babies tend to start crawling between 7 and 12 months.

There are signs that clearly show that the time to crawl is very close. In addition to the joy you feel as a parent, these signs also mean that you should start practicing with your baby to teach him how to crawl.

The most important signs that your baby is ready to crawl

  1. Your baby has begun to crawl using mostly his hands. In this phase, most babies push themselves forward with their hands, using their legs only minimally or not at all.
  2. While supporting himself on your hands, your baby tends to bend his legs to bring them under his body or close to his body. We are now close to crawling position!
  3. By being able to support himself on his hands and knees, your baby rolls back and forth.
  4. Due to various observations, the time to crawl often comes after the baby can sit up confidently without parental assistance. The reason for this is that sitting indicates that all her necessary muscles are strong enough to keep her from falling to the ground while crawling.
  5. After sitting up on their own, babies also learn step by step to move from a sitting position to a crawling position, supporting themselves on their hands and knees. When you see your baby do it, you won’t have to wait long to see him crawl too.
  6. Eventually your baby will figure out how to use his knees to push himself forward. This is the point where your baby is ready to start his amazing journey to discover the house by crawling.

What is your role?

Seeing the signs described below, it is also time for you to help your baby by teaching him to crawl. Yes, I know that babies can learn this movement on their own, however, the common practice is very helpful and enjoyable for both parents and babies. There are several methods to speed up the learning period.

The following steps

While watching your baby crawl makes every parent happy and proud, you shouldn’t forget about potential new dangers. Now your baby can reach various pieces of furniture and objects inside the whole house, as she can appear everywhere, even in places you wouldn’t even think about. When you discover any of the above signs, it’s a good time to start thinking about how to ‘baby-proof’ her home. Get on your knees and in this position crawl around the house. This new perspective will help you uncover many potential sources of trouble.
