Buying frustration instead of Easter vacation? The trade is hoping for good sales

The upcoming Easter business gives retailers a glimmer of hope. When travel is impossible and celebrations are canceled, some of them could give their loved ones a nicer gift or – given the bleak winter weather – treat themselves to a spring dress.

“Surveys show that this year 16 percent of Austrians are spending more on Easter gifts,” says trade chairman Rainer Trefelik. Austrians spend 200 to 220 million euros on Easter gifts. After candy and Easter eggs, toys are the most popular.
