Get some help around the house

Getting kids to help around the house can sometimes be a battle most parents aren’t willing to fight. If it seems like you’re the only one wearing a housekeeper uniform in your house, it’s time to get a little help. With a little knowledge and a few well-practiced tactics, you can soon have your kids eager to help with daily chores.

With adults and children living under the same roof, chaos is often the norm in most homes. With so many people running around, it can be difficult to keep a house clean. If everyone in the house pitched in every week, not only would the house be cleaner, but everyone would be happier living in a less chaotic world. Getting younger kids involved in the cleanup is pretty easy. All you need to do is print out a reward chart and add some stickers to make it fun. Every time they do a task correctly, you can give them a star on the chart. Once they get a certain number of stars, they get some sort of reward. You can give them a monetary reward, quality time with you, the honor of choosing food for a weekend dinner, etc. With a little addition to that chart, you’ll be amazed at how quickly they’re willing to put on their cleaning uniforms and help out.

For older children, getting them to help with household chores can be a little more difficult. One of the main motivators for teenagers is, of course, money. If this is not for you, there are other options to choose from. You just need to start by explaining to your children that everyone should help do their fair share to keep a clean house. An easy way to get them to agree to do chores is to let them choose which ones to do. Write a list of tasks and let them divide them among themselves. You will be surprised to know which one they choose. You should also give them a deadline for when the tasks are to be completed.

Another great way to encourage participation is to lead by example. No one is going to want to do chores when they don’t see anyone else doing them either. Be sure to do your part to keep a clean house so your children learn by watching you. Get out your maid shirt and scrub those floors while the kids do the dishes!
