Motorsport is expensive, that’s a fact. The FIA has just developed a new pyramid which clarifies the ranks to be climbed to dream of one day becoming the “new Neuville”. Renault took the opportunity to develop the Clio “Rally 5” at low cost; and the Belgian importer to make it a Trophy.
Disputer rallies at low cost? The formula can make you smile when you know the (tens of) thousands of euros generally necessary for this type of commitment. The effort made for the purchase (or rental) of basic equipment (the car) obviously has nothing to do with that to be expected by a tennis or athletics lover …
In order to clarify the stages of the initiatory journey supposed to lead to the elite of world rallying where Thierry Neuville is seated in particular, the FIA has just developed a pyramid which establishes a much clearer hierarchy of these different stages leading to the top. Suddenly, some manufacturers have sharpened small cars which fit more precisely on the different stages of this pyramid which goes from “Rally 5” (the category of access) to “Rally 1”, current WRC.
