The perfect space to make coffee

You’re half awake when you walk into the kitchen to make your coffee. It’s hard to think straight, especially if you have to open 3 or 4 cabinets to gather the items to do so. And finding your favorite cup in the middle of the sea of cups and coffee cups in disuse, is not easy either. Every minute counts when you’re trying to get out the door on time. If you’re a coffee drinker, it’s time to simplify the process by creating a coffee station.

Step 1: Choose the perfect space. Choose a small upper cabinet that has an outlet nearby. You will need to plug in the coffee maker directly under this cabinet.

Step 2: Purge the cups and mugs. You have your favorites. We all do. It could be the size, the color, the feel of the handle, or something else you love so much. Whatever it is, it’s always the cup you drink first. Most people have too many mugs in their cabinets that take up valuable space. Donate unused cups and bowls and reduce to the number that will fit in your cabinet. A dozen or less should be enough.

Step 3: Gather supplies and place them in containers. I generally use two containers. The first is for coffee and the supplies needed to make it. I love these slippers because they are easy to clean and fit in most closets. The second can be used for tea and/or other hot drinks.

Step 4: Adjust the shelves. Most shelves are adjustable, but it’s easy to forget that they are. If yours are adjustable, adjust them to the size you need. If you need additional shelves, take one with you to your local hardware store. They may have one or more cuts for you. Shelf pins (the things that hold the shelves up) are also sold there. These come in various sizes, so it’s a good idea to carry one of those with you too. If you don’t have adjustable shelves, you can use an auxiliary shelf. The sneakers I recommend fit perfectly under them.

Step 5: Place your items and label them. Arrange cups and baskets so they are easy for you to access and label. I’m big on the subject of labels. It helps everyone in the house know where things belong and will prevent you from messing with them randomly.
