Webinar Replay Scarcity

You need to host your own live online webinar so you can show your screen and broadcast your voice to a multitude of people who want your live training and instruction. But most webinar marketers (your competition or even you) don’t value their content enough and seem to be in the habit of giving away a lot of free stuff.

One thing I see given away too often is webinar replay. You record a replay, right? That’s great, but just because you recorded it doesn’t mean you have to give it away… EVEN to people who attended live. It is your content and it is your recording. You can choose to make it free, make it paid, or make it exclusive.

I realize this is the exact opposite of what most marketers teach. The funny thing is, these marketers are the ones getting terrible attendance rates on webinars, so they need to build a massive list just to get a handful of people to attend a webinar.

This is what usually happens: everyone signs up just to get the replay. They don’t show up to the webinar at all. And when you provide that replay, if it’s downloadable, most people will download it and file it away somewhere… never to watch it again. If you don’t make the replay downloadable, people will skip the video and choose what they want.

One of the biggest advantages of a webinar is that as long as the person is on the computer, they can’t fast-forward. You are one step away from having a “captive audience” at a live event.

If you have to give the replay away, only make it available for a short period of time, like 48 hours. Don’t allow fast forward and set the video to redirect to your sales letter after the webinar is over.

And even that is only a temporary measure. To really encourage my subscribers to attend my webinars, I have stopped offering an outdoor replay altogether, for an extended period of time. If they want that replay, it will be within the paid members area.

You don’t want to encourage people to “wait until later” when it comes to webinars. They’re most effective when they’re live, so encourage people to attend by protecting your replay.
