Yamuna Expressway Development

Yamuna Expressway

Yamuna Expressway or Torkham Junction is a 6 lanes wide and 162.5 kilometers long access-control expressway, linking Pari Chowk in Greater Noida to Kuberpur in Uttar Pradesh in India. It is currently India’s third longest commercial road line. The expressways network, which stretches from Delhi to Agra and back, is classified into three sections – South Central, North Central and East and West. It passes through at least eighteen cities of India. The third section connects the national capital with various major cities of Rajasthan, suggesting the importance of this road in the overall transportation connectivity in India.

Yamuna Expressway Authority Plots

The authority was formed in 1998, with the merger of three private entities viz. Unitech, CVG and Ansal Corporation. Among all these entities, the third one, Ansal Corporation, has held the key role in terms of its role in the construction and development of the Yamuna Expressway. With the merger, the responsibilities of the authority were transferred to Unitech, now known as Taj Exhibitorial Services Limited.

The Yamuna Expressway has three phases namely, South Central, North Central and East and West. It carries traffic headed to Agra, from which it reaches New Delhi. The third phase of the project, which is the biggest economic development initiative in Greater Noida, involves building the toll plaza and the hotels. The toll plaza is to be constructed by the third phase and the third one will include four new hotels, apart from the present facilities.

Yamuna Expressway Development

The first task before the authority is to chalk out a master plan for the project. The master plan is to be prepared by a team of experts under the supervision of the Managing Partner, Taj Exhibitorial Services Limited. The plan is supposed to incorporate all the key aspects of the project like the infrastructure, the real estate, the local as well as the international trade and marketing. This ensures that the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority does not lag behind when it comes to the implementation part of the project.

The next task is to allot a part of the property for development and allotment to the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority. The authorities need not bother about the future development of the property, since it has already been allotted for it. In fact, the authority has been given an additional four years to develop the project as per the approved plan. For this task, they are yet to receive a share of the annual jackpot.

The third task in the agenda of the authority is the procurement of the land from various private as well as government-owned resources. The land thus acquired is then put under the management of RSVP India Limited, an Infratech company that works out contracts for the construction of the toll road, the electrification of the stretch and also the furnishing of the furniture, lighting, heating and security measures. Infratech is also responsible for providing the necessary workforce to take care of the project.
