5 Factors to Consider When Buying Fabric Shades

Fabric shades are one treatment where you won’t have to sacrifice beauty for functionality. They can be simple, elegant and contemporary or they can also be voluminous and luxuriously elegant. Below I have listed 5 factors to consider when selecting fabric shades for your home:

1. The Stack – Do you have enough space above the window for the blind to stack when it’s open? With fabric blinds, they create their own valance, making them perfect for mounting over the window. And unlike other treatments, fabric blinds look great mounted over the window. This also helps make your window look bigger!

2. Texture: One of my favorite places for a fabric shade is… a kitchen or bathroom. Kitchens and bathrooms often have many hard surfaces in the room: tile floors, wood cabinets, granite countertops, mirrors, sinks, etc. Adding softness with a shade of fabric is the perfect solution for a “hard” room and is desperately needed.

3. Room Size: If your room is smaller, go for a simple style with clean lines. A large, billowy screen with lots of luxurious fabrics could dominate a small room with all the wrong proportions.

4. Step Up Your Style: A fabric shade looks fabulous on its own or layered with drapes for a more sophisticated look.

5. More for your money: A fabric shade will last many, many years with minimal care. There are two mechanisms that operate the curtain. A rope and a pulley. No custom mounting brackets, batteries, or complicated mechanisms to break or wear out.

Regardless of the style you choose, fabric shades look great in any room, no matter the fabric or budget!
