Activities for children in Cape Town

The city of Cape Town offers entertainment opportunities for people of all ages and tastes. So while the grown-ups enjoy shopping at the V&A Waterfront or taking part in wine-tasting sessions, the kids can take a tour of the Two Oceans Aquarium. The following is a list of places where children can enjoy:

1) Two Oceans Aquarium: Located on the Victoria and Albert Waterfront, the Two Oceans Aquarium is home to a wide variety of animal life, including turtles, sharks, and penguins. Here you can find more than 3000 living species. The aquarium derives its name from the two oceans that meet here; the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean. The play area next to the seal exhibit is very popular with children. They can play with the seals and touch seaweed, shells and sea anemones. In addition to exotic species of turtles and sharks, you can also find jellyfish and seahorses on display. Adults who have the Padi Open Water Certificate can dive with ragged tooth sharks and other predators.

2) Cable Car Ride Through Table Mountains: A cable car ride through Table Mountain is sure to be a hit with the kids. The panoramic view at the top of the mountain is impressive. The view includes lush green vineyards, sandy beaches and the myriad of indigenous flora species. Children will surely enjoy the ride of more than 1200 m. And if the journey has whetted your appetite, you can choose to dine at the cable car station restaurant or have a light snack.

3) Eagle Encounter at Spier Estate: Spier Estate is home to Eagle Encounters, a bird rescue center where kids can take part in interactive bird shows. Children are also allowed to hold the eagle and feed it. There is also the Cheetah Outreach Center, where children can enjoy seeing wild cheetahs.

4) Boulders Beach: Boulders Beach is a well-protected cove and is located just past the quaint village of Simon’s Town. The beach is ideal for children as the huge granite boulders protect the deck from strong winds and big waves. It is also the home and breeding ground for hundreds of free-roaming African penguins.
