Albino Leopard Gecko – Why is it expensive?

For people who have ideas about the albino leopard gecko, it is not surprising why this variety of gecko is expensive. Before, the reason it got expensive is the fact that it is a rare variety of gecko. There is no such thing as this form of gecko before. And when the first albino was born, the owner / breeder broke through to produce more albino geckos. Today, this variety of leopard geckos is sold in pet stores and is still being bred. But, for the benefit of those who are just beginners in the field of this type of hobby, here are some ideas as to why it became expensive.

As mentioned above, there is no such variety as the albino leopard gecko before. It was in 1996 when it was reported that the first albino was born. The breeder gave her a name “Rosie”. Rosie was the first albino to be born in the world (that is, in captivity). Of course, there is a possibility that there are also other leopard geckos in the wild that were born albinos, but were not discovered. Rosie was a sickly albino according to the owner / breeder. So Rosie died after almost a year. But the breeder didn’t give up and tried further research and found that Rosie’s brother Bubba may contain some of her genes. He found that Bubba has almost a 67% chance of producing an albino strain.

Then the breeder tried to breed Bubba as fast as he could and as long as he could. He was raised with other geckos. Since the sex of the geckos can be established according to the temperature, the breeder tried to find more females than males. When Bubba’s offspring reached sufficient maturity to be reproduced, the breeder tried to breed Bubba with his female offspring. After the rearing process, almost 1,200 eggs were produced. After all 1,200 eggs were hatched and hatched, 155 albinos were produced. The first wave of albinos was named after breeder Ron Tremper and referred to as the Tremper Albino variety.

Thereafter, the albino Tremper variety was crossed with other leopard gecko species. Today, there are many varieties of the albino morpho. Aside from the albino Tremper, there are the Albino Bell, the Albino Giant, the Albino Raptor, and the Albino Stripe Tremper. Each albino comes with its own distinctive feature that most gecko enthusiasts were looking for. Now, you have ideas why this morph is one of the most expensive varieties of geckos.
