Bible Science Experiments for Kids: Use Quarters to Demonstrate God’s Protection

Many Christians wonder how to know the will of God in their lives. A wise man suggested: “It is easier to turn a moving ship than a stationary one.” He meant that if you keep moving and trying various options, God will “turn” you around and get you moving in the right direction. He’ll close a door if it’s not the right one and give you signs along the way. That’s better than trying to figure out God’s will by doing nothing, just sitting still.

By trying this moving Bible science experiment with your Sunday school class, we can demonstrate a lot about finding God’s will in our lives.

Bible Science Experiment Instructions:

1. To get started, each child will need a quarter.

2. Ask students to extend their elbow in front of them so that the part of their arm from elbow to wrist is parallel to the floor.

3. Rotate the wrist so that the palm of the hand is facing up

4. Place a quarter, perhaps an inch from your elbow on the flat top of your arm.

5. drop the arm very quickly with an open hand

Ask the children, “Did you get the quarter? Almost? Try again!”

After a few tries, most students can catch the coin so easily that they are surprised. It’s like the quarter will “pass” through their hands if they drop their arm fast enough.

Scientific explanation for children:

“The quarter is in a state of inertia when you start. The force of gravity will definitely push it down once you drop your elbow, but the fall is slow due to inertia. Your arm, however, already it’s in motion, moving quickly as you quickly drop your elbow. So it has time to catch the coin before inertia gives way to gravitational pull.”

Link of the experiment to the Bible:

Ask the children, “Have you ever been in such a bind that you thought even God couldn’t get you out of it? God often allows us to suffer the consequences of our actions, and even the best of people will test his faith. It may feel much like that quarter in the science experiment in the Bible, as if you were going to hit the ground and die due to some terrifying circumstance in your life. But Psalm 37:24 says that although men often fall for some way, man will always fall. he will not be completely knocked down, he will not hit the ground with a splash! Why? Because the Lord holds us in his hand. No matter what our terrifying problem is or how much it feels like falling, God is what fast and strong enough to catch us!”
