Building Muscle Without Weights – Principles

You’ve probably heard often that building muscle without weights is impossible. After all, everyone said that you have to lift weights to achieve a muscular physique. However, when you think about it, the principles of building muscle without weights are logically the same as lifting weights.

muscle overload

The 2 fundamental principles to become more muscular are the following:

* The principle of overload

* The principle of progressive overload

In order for a muscle to develop and grow larger, it must be made to work beyond its daily uses (overload). When the body gets used to the new workload, a plateau is reached. To progress further, you need to work the muscle further to adapt through increasing size and strength, i.e. progressive overload.

body weight exercises

Using your body as a form of resistance and using a variety of exercises and techniques has a similar effect to lifting weights. Muscle also weighs more than fat, so as you get more muscular, your body weight increases increasing the resistance you have available. You won’t be as big as a powerlifting bodybuilder as they have the tools to increase the overload at a faster rate. However, not everyone wants to look muscular, but muscular enough to be proud to be seen on the beach.

Get Buff

One of the advantages of building muscle without lifting weights is that you can do a higher number of repetitions per set. This makes the body tap into its energy stores faster and allows you to burn fat more effectively without having to spend hours doing cardio. However, you will need to watch your diet, as there is no such thing as spot reduction. A six pack only comes through clean living and exercise.

financial incentives

Not everyone has the time or money to spend on a gym or the space to set up their own home gym, so working out at home with bodyweight exercises makes sense.
