Darya Domracheva – Who is she?

Biography

Looking back on her childhood and adolescence, Darya Domracheva confesses that she never thought of becoming a big star in sports. Born into a family of architects in Minsk and raised in Russia, where her parents moved because of her work, Dasha was a normal girl.

The village where his family lived was a small one called Nyagan with no prospects for ambitious people. Darya started skiing at the age of six and since then it has always been his greatest passion. Being an energetic girl, sports has quickly become a limitless source of inspiration for her.

His eyes even sparkled when he saw heavens. When she opened the biathlon school in her town, she jumped at the chance and attended. During that time, Dasha realized that biathlon is something she had been passionate about her whole life.

However, when her parents returned to Minsk, Darya studied Tourism Management at the Belarusian State Economic University because there was no Sports Management faculty at the University.

A talented girl successfully completed a thesis on advertising in the tourism industry. However, she won her love for the sport.

From the young age of six, Darya knew what she wanted to do for the rest of her life. She started skiing in 1992 and switched to biathlon in 1999. She initially represented Russia and then accepted the offer from Belarus and in the end she became a competitor for Belarus.

He has always tested his limits and pushed his strength and physical endurance to the limit.

He has spent a great number of years training hard under the strict supervision of Nikolay Zaharov and Adrian Tsybulsky, who have undoubtedly contributed to his success.

  • Early in her career, Darya placed third in the pursuit and fourth in the individual events at the World Junior Championships in 2006.

  • A young athlete managed to win two silver medals in 2007 at the World Junior Championships in Italy.

  • In 2008-2009 he obtained two third places and one second. This period is also considered the time of his breakthrough.

  • At the 2010 Winter Olympics, Dasha managed to get a bronze and two gold medals.

  • Darya is now extremely famous having won three gold medals at the 2014 Winter Olympics in biathlon.

  • After his victories, he was awarded the title “Hero of Belarus”, which is one of the highest titles in Belarus. Also, Darya received the title of “Female Athlete of the Year” in 2010.

Darya also leads an active social life. She is one of the candidates to become a member of the International Olympic Committee Athletes Commission. In addition, she actively participates in solidarity projects that help talented young people to make their dreams come true.

Being a people person, Darya shot a short film about her squad, teammates and other competitors from 2008 to 2010.

The film offers an insight into the lives of the athletes, their stressful routine, the rare days of relaxation and helps to get to know them up close while showing their training sessions, trips together and competitions.
