How do I store my trampoline during the winter?

We have a surprising number of phone calls this year with this exact question. Aside from stating the obvious of simply storing it in your garage, there are actually a few more factors to consider. We’ll look at these various factors in this article, which in turn extends the life of your trampoline.

1. Store your trampoline with a cover – This option has proven to be the most popular in recent years since prices for tops plummeted. A good quality trampoline cover will protect your trampoline from the worst of frosts during the peak of winter and will keep water off the pads. What you need to keep in mind is to make sure the cover has a drainage hole to ensure there are no puddles of water in the middle of the bed, the weight of the water can cause major damage. Make sure the cover has decent ties to attach to the trampoline frame and preferably spend a little more and get a PVC cover for the trampoline instead of EPE. This means that the trampoline stays dry not all the time, which is when the most damage occurs.

2. Store your trampoline in the garage – This is the most effective way to extend the life of your trampoline. However, when storing your trampoline, be sure to place the bed somewhere out of the reach of rodents. The material is ideal for rodents to use as nest filler and is therefore often a target when stored. The other tip is to keep track of all the parts while the trampoline is being disassembled, as it can be quite difficult to get replacement parts next year. Trampoline pads are susceptible to moisture and should therefore ideally be sealed in waterproof packaging during the storage period.

3. Leave the trampoline frame outside – Another option would be to leave the trampoline frame outside and remove the trampoline pads along with the trampoline bed. This means that materials damaged by the weather are stored and the frame is safe outside. Again, store the trampoline pads and trampoline bed in a cool, dry place away from rodent access.
