How do the inhabitants of Begur celebrate the Fira D’Indians Festival?

Different types of events and fairs are held on the Costa Brava. There are some major festivals that are known all over the world. The Fira D’Indians festival or the Indianos festival in Begur is one of those festivals. Begur is a small town where this traditional fair is celebrated with great fervor.

The festival has no connection to the aboriginal groups of America or the residents of India. The Indians are a small category of people in Spain who had emigrated to Latin America to live a better life and then returned to the millionaire homeland.

In Begur, the population of Indians is quite large and most of them are settled in Cuba. The main theme of this festival is the warm relationship between Begur and Cuba.

The fair begins on the first Friday in September and runs late into the night on Sunday. The first time, the festival started in 2004 and it was a great success. After that, it became an annual event. It is a three-day festival and the small town of Begur is witness to a lot of fun and activities during the festival. The fair begins with an official opening by politicians and people linked to the world of the Indies.

On the first day, music and dancing take place in different places in the city throughout the night. On the last day, modern dandies parade through the city showing their vintage sports cars and habaneras sung on the beaches.

Shopping is the most important part of any fair. Therefore, shopping is also part of the Fira d’Indians. You can enjoy Cuban coffee beans, cocoa, rum, cold cuts, herbs, and spices along with sweets, chocolate, and toys. The fair has a dress code, white linen clothing and a straw hat. If you don’t have one, you can select a white shirt, pants because the dresses are available for purchase at the fair. You can also buy traditional products at the fair such as handwoven fishing nets, forged metal items, baskets, espadrilles, and more. There is a wide selection of the different items that are worth buying if you want to keep a memory of the party for a lifetime.

Another important thing to enjoy at the festival is Latin American music in the early hours of the morning. You can tap your feet anywhere and anytime. Throughout the fair different musical activities take place. There are many traditional Habanera songs, street performances, and recreational activities from the colonial era that take place during the festival.

The most important drink served during the festival is the mojito. It is served in each corner in a brand glass that you can also keep as a souvenir of Begur. You can enjoy the drink along with the delicious sandwiches that are part of the fair.
