Getting a job as a stripper is not as difficult as you might think. Many exotic dancers mistakenly believe that applicants must be blonde, busty, and beautiful. The truth is, most adult entertainment venues desperately need a variety of styles and will gladly invite you to audition.

How to start

The first item in your job search is figuring out what type of men’s club you are comfortable working for. There are several types of places; including: topless strip clubs, nude and bikini only. If this will be your first experience working as a stripper, it is a good idea to find elegant places, without contact policies. Your best bet is to search online and make a list of different clubs. Many women believe that they need to call the strip club and describe their appearance and personality. I would suggest not doing this at all. Strip club managers tend to be very busy and have heard it all before. In addition, adult clubs receive many job inquiries every day. The worst thing you can do is call the strip club and ask the owner how to get a job. It is unprofessional and very annoying. Just call and ask what time the auditions are held, as well as what type of clothing is required.

How to prepare

From the moment you walk in the door to audition as a stripper, they are watching you. Chances are, a coach somewhere in the club can see you on camera. Since you only get a first impression, do your best. It may be absolutely hot, but if you walk in with the wrong attitude, your chances are diminished. Traditionally, there will be a hostess working the front door. Please approach her with a smile and let her know that you are there to audition as a dancer. Don’t give attitude or be rude anyway. You never know if you are dating a manager or a member of staff and strip clubs are known to be very malicious. It is also a good idea to bring your driver’s license or ID, as most clubs have an age requirement. Trust me, getting a job as a stripper is completely different from the usual job search methods. They are not interested in your organizational skills or multitasking. Managers look at the following traits: appearance, body, and attitude.

What to wear

It doesn’t matter if you are trying to become a stripper in a salon, bar, or club. I suggest finding a sexy knee length dress. You want to convey to the manager that you are a beautiful and elegant woman, worthy of being an exotic dancer. It’s always good to give them a bit of mystery before showing them the whole package. My best advice is to wear a pair of 3- to 4-inch heels. Anything higher can lead to an imbalance and a possible embarrassing drop on stage. Since most strip clubs are dimly lit, wear a red, light blue, or white dress for your stripper audition. Avoid neon colors or dresses that are too tight. Another item that you will want to pay attention to is your hair and makeup. Since it’s not unusual for strippers to make several thousand dollars a night, it’s important to make an investment in your audition. Take some time to style your hair or, if necessary, make the change. This includes paying attention to the nails. However, all of this may seem a bit far-fetched; peeling is a very competitive business. Whatever you do, avoid cursing or talking about your personal business before the audition. If you are hired, there will be plenty of time for gossip and drama.

Hearing

Most adult clubs will ask you to meet their housekeeper and change in the dressing room. A house mom basically takes care of the strippers at the club, providing food, cosmetics, and general help throughout the night. The mother of the house will ask you to change and go on stage to audition. At this point, a manager, generally unknown to you, will be watching you from a distance. Please don’t ask the DJ to play your favorite song. The club is looking to see how you fit into a normal rotation and does not have time to meet your unique needs. Most stripper auditions last a song or two. She gracefully walks onto the stage and dances slowly. Don’t jump or start swinging on the pole. The idea here is to be subtle, sensual, and sexy. When directed by the mother of the house, remove the dress slowly and delicately.

Be sure to smile and maintain eye contact with the manager or staff member auditioning you. Under no circumstances would I suggest stomping or crawling across the stage. Industry strippers who dance this way are considered very inelegant and unprofessional. Once you’re done with the audition, the house mom or manager will usually let you know if you’ve been hired as a stripper at their club. If they tell you that they will contact you later, the club is probably not interested. Don’t be discouraged. Take the opportunity to explore the reasons you were not hired and make improvements. Just because one strip club didn’t hire you doesn’t mean another won’t.
