How to make my mastiff listen to me when I tell him to sit down

Mastiffs are a stubborn breed of dog that are also many people’s favorite pet dog for a wide variety of reasons. I know for me I had to train my mastiff to sit in order for me to complete her obedience training. I know for me I had to teach him with repeated commands and that’s how I was able to do it successfully and quickly, which was good because it made training him on other subjects so much easier.

For me, the easiest method I found to get my Mastiff to sit was by teaching him that I was in charge and not him. It may not look like it, but they are pack dogs and will respect the leader and listen to the leader. So I had to make sure he knew I was the leader of the pack, which really helped me get him to listen. Now you may be wondering how you are going to make him want to sit down, well if you are the leader in his eyes he will listen to what you tell him to do.

Now getting him to recognize what the command to sit means is more of a challenge, but I had a fully obedience trained Labrador who helped me that way because he would sit when I gave him the command. Which would lead my mastiff to sit when he did. However, I would have to repeat the command to my mastiff when he wasn’t around and that would mean I would stand there saying sit the whole time until he finally sat down and then I would pat him on the chest to praise him.
