It’s the International Day of Happiness: they are the happiest Belgians!


According to the UGent survey, Belgian happiness has decreased the most among the younger generations.

On the occasion of the International Day of Happiness this Saturday, the University of Ghent took an interest in the impact of the health crisis and confinement on the development of Belgians.

In collaboration with the life insurer NN, new results from the National Happiness Survey reveal that satisfaction with our social contacts and our average level of happiness have fallen sharply.

However, the study also shows that the contacts that Belgians maintain are on average warmer. The percentage of Belgians who felt a strong sense of (social) belonging fell from 33% before the crisis to 41% during the second wave.
