Navalny relocated again, according to lawyers

The arrested Russian opposition activist Alexei Navalny has been relocated again, according to his lawyers. Navalny has left the previous prison in the Vladimir region, it said on Navalny’s Twitter account on Friday, citing his lawyers. According to a report by the Tass news agency, the Kremlin critic is said to have been relocated to the IK-2 penal colony near Pokrov, around 100 kilometers east of Moscow.

Russian opposition member brought to penal colony

A spokeswoman for the state law enforcement service said that because of privacy protection, she could not reveal any information about Nawalny’s whereabouts. The 44-year-old was sentenced to more than two and a half years in prison for violating probation conditions and was brought to Vladimir at the end of February.

The Kremlin critic survived a poison attack in Russia in 2020 and received medical treatment in Germany. On his return to his homeland in January, Navalny was arrested for allegedly violating probation conditions from a previous conviction of infidelity while he was away. A court converted the suspended sentence into a prison sentence. The condemnation was sharply criticized internationally, and the European Union and the USA have therefore imposed new sanctions on Russia.
