NRG Energy Crisps

This is my first review of a power food, and it’s definitely an interesting one. Chips? Yes ma’am. This will be something of a two-for-one review; NRG as a chip and NRG as an energy product.

As fries, they’re pretty basic as far as spicy fries go. The heat alone should be enough to wake you up, and probably make your nose runny as well. Mine scored a 4.340. They’re crinkle fries (think Ruffles), always slightly undercooked; all Golden Flake chips are, it’s his thing. The heat is on top of a ‘BBQ’ base flavor; again pretty basic stuff. It’s good, but really nothing super special.

Now the part you want to read. Energy Boosting Ingredients, and Do They Work? Yes, they certainly do. Especially if you consume the full 3.5 ounces (an actual serving is only 1 ounce). ‘Can you taste the chemicals?’ Surprisingly, not a bit. Caffeine is bitter, but the heat and other flavors were so powerful that there was not a hint of medicinal aftertaste. I guess the same goes for taurine and B vitamins. I’m not sure what they would taste like on their own, but I’m sure they’re not very palatable.

Do you want some numbers? Sorry, I can’t give them to you. Not because I don’t want to; I’m pretty curious myself, but Golden Flake is keeping quiet about how many milligrams of ‘enhancers’ are in the fries per serving, saying only that it’s comparable to a cup of coffee. You get a confirmed 80% B6 and 100% B12. Vitamins in French fries? Has the world gone crazy?

When it comes to fat and calories, NRGs are all potato chips. 140 calories and 9 grams (3 g saturated, 0 g trans) per ounce. It’s not horrible, but it could always be better. Use them as a lunch replacement/pick me up in a pinch, maybe? It all depends on you and your personal diets.

Availability is limited to the southeastern United States, but they will send you a case if you are interested in purchasing them in other areas of the country. If you’re really nice and contact them, they might even send you a sample. However, there are no promises. Otherwise, you can expect to pay anywhere from $1-$2 depending on how greedy your chosen retailer is. eat up!
