Patience and friendship

Shakespeare had said, “If you find a friend, bind him with steel chains.” This metaphorical statement explains to a great extent that finding a friend is very difficult and keeping him even more. So if you find a good friend, do your best to keep them. Because good friends are rare.

But when you have a friend, you have to develop a lot of patience. As it is not easy to stick with a friend and with his worldly needs. At school friends come and go, but some are left behind, most of the friends we make here are superficial. In college, our friendship grows some roots, while later in life some friends grow stronger with our lives.

Sometimes we get so immersed in our lives: the routine of work, housework, and other things that we forget about our friends. Or sometimes they keep calling us to talk or just to hang out and we’re just not in the mood to entertain them. But we must understand that one day the same thing will happen to us and it is our friends who lift our spirits and give us that attentive ear that does the trick.

So you need to have a lot of patience with your friends. Sometimes you just have to listen to them, sometimes taking a walk or eating out catching up on old times because not all of us are successful and have a great life. As we move on and out of college, some of our friends are not doing so well in life. They lack confidence or weaken monetarily. You are here to play the trick that a friend always does, that is, be there for your friend.

Sometimes it’s just the fact that you are there for him or her. All they want to know is that they are not alone in their fight. A phase of struggle in life seems to have no end, although the end is near and all you have to do is say, ‘hold on, this will end soon’. And it sure will be.

It is difficult for married people to balance marriage and friends as they are caught in the crossfire. Friends want to go out while husband or wife want to go out on the same day. Meeting after work or going for a drink creates unwanted problems, as the spouse at home thinks that you are placing more importance on your friends. So doing the balancing act and explaining to your spouse that it is just a matter of a day with friends while you are with your spouse is always what matters. So reserve all the patience you have to uphold the cause of your friends for life, it’s no piece of cake.
