Sebastian Inlet State Park: Popular but Undiscovered?

Sebastian Inlet State Park is popular with locals, but not well known outside of Florida’s Treasure Coast area. Except maybe for the surfers. But there is more than just surfing in Sebastian Inlet, much more! Come and discover this beautiful Florida State Park and all that it has to offer.

First of all: Surf’s Up!

The surfing crowd in Florida knows quite a bit about Sebastian Inlet: it’s famous for the “Monster Hole,” where you can catch a wave and ride it for a long time.

Sebastian Inlet State Park is unusual in that it hosts several surf competitions during the early part of the year, especially in April.

Swimming and water fun

Swimming is a big part of the appeal of this Florida state park. There are shallower, calmer areas that are great for beginners or kids. Then there are the beach areas that get the same type of waves that surfers crave.

For the diving set, there are plenty of rocky reefs off the beach to explore. Keep in mind that summer is the best time for diving in general: the water is clearer, unless there’s a storm out at sea. Remember your diver flag!

Boating and Fishing

Boating and fishing are excellent in Sebastian Inlet. You can do one or both in the Atlantic Ocean or the Indian River. The Atlantic involves sailing through Sebastian Inlet which is not for the novice sailor, it can be a bit tricky. The Indian River, however, is calm waters, suitable for power boats, kayaks or canoes.

You can find all kinds of fish, including jacks, redfish, snappers, groupers, and more, in the river or ocean.

What other thing?

You can also camp in the park (both RVs and tents welcome) – there are 51 spots available, but you may want to call ahead in the summer months.

And if you’re into hiking, there are two different trails you can follow and enjoy: Hammock for shorter hikes and Volksport for longer hikes (up to 10k).

Sebastian Inlet State Park is located on the Atlantic, just north of Vero Beach and south of Melbourne, Florida. Come and enjoy!
