So do you want to be a real estate investor?

So do you think you want to become a real estate investor? Become your own boss? Set your own hours? Do what you want? Do you make more money than you could ever count? Live the good life… huh?

You see it everywhere, on TV, infomercials, newspapers, magazines, the Internet. “Invest in real estate and make a quick fortune. Cars, houses, boats, expensive planes… it can all be yours, and it’s very easy.”

Yes! Right!

Let’s get real people. Often what you see in the media and what you experience in reality are two completely different things, aren’t they? Let’s look at some key points regarding this dream driving vehicle called Real Estate Investing.

ANYONE CAN DO THIS!

Can someone with the desire go into this business and make money? Sure, definitely “Yes!” We all basically share the same neurology as humans. So if one person can learn to do and achieve something, then pretty much anyone can. Some may need to gain a deeper understanding of some things about another person, but it can be done.

FAST PATH TO WEALTH.

Is real estate investing the fast track to riches and wealth that is so talked about? Well yes and no and you will get a lot of opinions on how long it can take to make real money in this business. From a couple of months to years. The reality is that, like everything, it depends on the impulse and the desire to be of the investor. Educate yourself on real estate investing and put that knowledge into action. The higher the level of commitment, typically, proportionally higher the level of success. I know of investors who made a little money from their initial efforts, and I know of many who (like me) made a lot of money pretty quickly in this business. It has been my experience, along with many others, that one can become financially independent in this business in less than 2 years, and many times in 1 year. There are many veterans who do not share this point of view and say that it is careless or careless to do it so quickly. But is not. It is done through careful analysis and investigation of the properties. Also, it is not just my opinion that this is done, but my experience and that of others.

“I” CAN’T DO THIS… OR, THIS CANNOT BE DONE IN “MY” AREA.

One challenge facing the beginner is that they are often faced with one frustration after another and give up before reaching any level of success. Real estate investing, like most other businesses, is a numbers business. Many beginners hear about the success of others in this business and falsely assume it was easy. The reality is that quite a bit of time and effort often goes into locating that “right” deal. I am often amazed at how many newbies complain that they went to such lengths and called 7 amazing salespeople and determined that this business cannot be done. It takes more effort than this to do this business. Call 100+ salespeople, then start complaining a bit, maybe. You can’t tell me that if you don’t stop contacting sellers and checking offers, you won’t find anything… ever! Now if you get nowhere after, say, 50 calls, then you need to seriously reconsider your strategy.

I find it hard to believe that there are areas where you can’t make money. I’ve been to many and found deals where people told me they didn’t exist. However, I believe that there are investment strategies that will not work in all places and at all times. If what you’re doing isn’t working in your area, change your approach and strategy.

Becoming a real estate investor can pretty much be what you choose to do. There are a plethora of resources: websites, discussion forums, as well as countless books and programs to get you started and further your education. You can choose to become a part-time investor or work full-time. Work a few hours at it, or work more than 12 hours a day. There will be paperwork that you will learn, not only to put together agreements, but also for registration and accounting. He will often become a jack of all trades handling various aspects of this business. You can become an investor, a negotiator, a manager, a handyman, an accountant, a janitor, etc. But rest assured, most of the time, the money is pretty good.

Starting a career as a real estate investor may be one of the wisest decisions you’ll ever make. It is a fulfilling and rewarding profession, however, like most, it requires some level of dedication and effort to succeed. This is not an effortless get-rich-quick type of business. But as you get rolling, you’ll find that the effort you put into it versus the profit you receive from it is well worth it. Often people I meet ask me what kind of work I do and I literally don’t even notice. “Work? Oh, you mean that thing that I do, that I love to do and get paid for it?”

Yes! That is all!
