The benefits of loofahs

Did you know that loofah (also known as luffa or loofah) actually starts out as a vegetable that is most commonly eaten in Asia and Africa? Just before Luffa acutangula and Luffa aegyptiaca (a squash) reach maturity, they are harvested for consumption. Loofah sponges are made from the pumpkins themselves after they are past maturity. They are dried and everything (skin and seeds) is removed except the main net. Initially, loofah sponges were primarily used as a kitchen scrubbing accessory. Since then, its great exfoliating attributes for the skin have brought loofah sponges into the showers of millions of people.

Loofah sponges come in a coarse texture and a softer texture on the sides of the sponge. The coarser textured side of the sponge is at the ends and is great for exfoliating feet, knees and elbows, while the softer texture (long side) is great for exfoliating and washing skin all over the body. It’s like having a dual-purpose scrub in one. Loofah sponges are also great for men who work a lot with vehicles or engines that push dirt and oil into cracks in the skin. Generally, when this accumulation of oil and dirt penetrates deep into the hands, it is due to the accumulation of dead skin cells. By exfoliating your hands daily with a loofah and shop soap, you will not only remove embedded grease and grime, but also soften your hands, which women love. Having a special one just for your man in the shower removes dirt and grime quickly.

Loofahs are used very well with sea salts to remove dead skin cells and detoxify the skin. They can also help reduce the appearance of cellulite, improve blood circulation, and regenerate skin cell production. Being totally natural they do not leave chemical residues.

To maintain your loofah sponges, after use be sure to rinse off all traces of soap or salt and allow to air dry. This will prevent them from growing mold and prolong their life. If your shower remains in active use, remove the loofah after rinsing and allow it to dry where it will not be in constant contact with moisture.

Loofah sponges provide the perfect surfaces for your deep to medium exfoliation needs, however too much pressure can cause skin irritation. Just apply as much pressure to the loofah on your skin that it is comfortable for you. It does not require a lot of pressure to achieve a healthy exfoliation.
