The many benefits of citizen journalism

Citizen journalism is about people collecting, reporting, analyzing and disseminating news and information, especially on social media.

This is not my definition, but Wikipedia’s.

As we all know, our world is now a global village. Therefore, we are all reporters or citizen journalists who use online platforms to tell the whole world what is happening around us.

Trained journalists now rely on social media and citizen reporters for tips on what’s happening around the world.

These tips are downloaded and then processed in accordance with journalism ethics and then sold to the same members of the public.

But, the truth is, hard copies of newspapers and magazines don’t sell much these days. Online media platforms, blogs, forums, directories, and social media have taken over. This is good for humanity.

A citizen journalist can make a living collecting and reporting information, photos, tips, and events for established newspapers, magazines, websites, blogs, and forums for publication. This may or may be free.

But, the value of a citizen reporter who helps spread the news, good, bad, or ugly, will have an impact on our world.

This is because so many people benefit in one way or another from social or conventional networks.

These people can be researchers, security experts, housewives, businessmen, bankers, journalists, lecturers, online marketers, motivational speakers, athletes, etc.

We all need the right information at any time to make informed decisions and opinions. And it is the media that will help us here.

Since trained journalists cannot be everywhere at once, the contributions of citizen reporters to inform, educate and entertain the public become very useful.

But, social networks are not regulated for now. Therefore, some data published on social networks is not processed. This is where our world leaders should come in.

In addition to the monetary benefits, citizen reporters will also experience a sense of satisfaction when they know that their contributions are helping to shape the world into a better place. This is immortal and goes beyond money.

I feel deep down that over time, social media will align and be able to regulate itself.

For a citizen reporter, there are many jobs available to you and there is no limit to how much money you can earn by passing tips, information and photos to established media teams, websites, blogs and forums for potential posts.
