The teaching that agrees with godliness

If someone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the healthy words of our Lord Jesus Christ and with the teaching that is according to godliness, he is conceited and does not understand anything. He has an unhealthy appetite for controversy and for the fight of words, which produces envy, discord, slander, evil suspicions (1 Timothy 6: 3-4).

This may sound harsh on Paul’s part, but it is true: anyone who does not believe in the doctrine that Paul expounded in the previous two verses, namely that widows should be treated fairly and slaves should obey their masters; which could be applied today when workers must obey their employer – or whoever does not “agree” with our Lord Jesus Christ, is doing nothing more than arousing controversy. So, for the sake of not arousing controversy, but uniting as believers, let’s see what are the healthy words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that is consistent with piety.

However, we must first understand what exactly that is. We know what it means to agree with “the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ,” which it means to agree with the Bible as a whole, but what is “godly teaching”? – Well, we can see that the dictionary definition of “agreements” is “to coincide or correspond”. So, we can deduce that this teaching is something that corresponds to piety; one could even say that it provokes it. Based on this information, what is one teaching that we know of that directly causes or corresponds to piety?

Certainly there are doctrinal teachings that if obeyed can cause love for God, or submission, or unity among believers or within a family, but piety itself? Godliness is not something that can be produced, it is something that has to be put into us. No one is, or can be “Godly” without first having Jesus Christ (who is God incarnate) come into his heart. So, what teaching that we know of corresponds to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ to dwell in someone’s heart?

There is only one: the teaching of the Gospel. The teaching that tells us how Jesus Christ came to earth, died a death that we should have died, and then ascended to the right hand of God to intercede for us. This teaching; The teaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the only teaching that can make someone repent and accept Jesus in his life.

Now, therefore, we see that there are three things that no one should fail to teach while they are teaching, and they are these:

1. We must never stop teaching the importance of helping those around us who need help, thus shining the light of Christ on those around us.

2. We must never stop teaching the importance of obedience to the doctrines of the Bible. that is, we must “agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

3. We must never neglect the teaching of the Gospel! That it is the only teaching that can produce true repentance in people.
