This is no time to panic, but when will people learn to listen?

Playing – in – the – words, by Robert Frost, but, perhaps, even more precisely, If you can keep your head, when those around you are losing theirs, you probably don’t fully understand what’s going on. However, although it is of little use, bury your head in the sand, nor carry, pink glasses, The best approach, probably, is to proceed, in a well considered manner, to collect all the relevant information and, for our public officials, to gain the trust of the voters, so that, when there is urgent news, and / or, before a possible crisis, our citizens are prepared, willing and able to LEARN listen and choose wisely. With that in mind, this article will briefly attempt to consider, examine, review and discuss, using the mnemonic approach, what this means and why it is important.

1. Hear; lessons; leadership: Many often wonder why so many Americans do not listen effectively to learn the best way to proceed, effectively and meaningfully. We need to learn the lessons, from past experiences, so that we can demand, leaders, that they be ready for prime timeand commit to effective leadership. This must mean that we have officials who prepare, prioritize, plan and articulate a compelling, inspiring and motivating message – for the common good!

two. Power / energize; empathy; emphasis; Excellence; explain; bear; to enrich: Public officials must focus on the needs, goals, and priorities of those they serve and represent, and not on their personal / political agenda and / or their own interests. When you possess a significant amount of personal energy, which you use, in a positive way, to energize your constituents, in a relevant and sustainable way. How can anyone win the trust of their constituents, unless / until they proceed with the highest degree of genuine empathy? consequently? When one’s emphasis is on achieving excellence, rather than just the good, everyone benefits! We need to choose people, who maintain their perseverance, to fight; Even when there are obstacles, they get in your way! When a public leader seeks to enrich his constituents, he is ready, willing and able to fully explain and address concerns in a public and beneficial way.

3. Articulate; attention; behaviour: Unfortunately, many politicians simply make populist statements, predominantly based on a personal / political agenda, and self-interest, rather than articulating a message, based on paying close attention and inspiring others, for the common good, with a positive attitude, calls to action!

Four. Relevant; trustworthy; sensitive; responsable: Instead of playing politics, as usual, when the going gets tough, like during this pandemic, they don’t provide relevant leadership. Instead of the same old, same old, we need leaders who are trustworthy, responsive (in a timely manner), and truly accountable.

5. Highly strung; needs: It is normal for citizens to be nervous during this recent crisis, but panic is of no benefit! We are best served by people who address our needs and who are ready, willing, and capable of making tough decisions.

Instead of resorting to panic, we need to choose people who will teach us how to LEARN to listen effectively and take appropriate action. Wake up, America, before it’s too late!
