Among plastics, polyethylene is perhaps the most widely used. It is widely used for packaging. It has thermoplastic qualities, which means it can melt when heated but turn to a hard glassy state when cooled afterwards. An antistatic and fire retardant plastic film is perfect for covering floors as it is firm and durable. It also does not leave stains on the floor unlike newspaper.

It is also good for covering carpets. Due to its antistatic quality, it does not adhere to the fibers of the tent. It can also protect the carpet in the unfortunate event of a fire. It is also good for covering heavy furniture such as pianos, wall clocks, and antique cabinets when the walls need to be painted.

Immovable appliances like refrigerators and kitchen ovens can also be protected from paint. Ceramic countertops are also covered with plastic film. Sinks and bathtubs can also be covered with plastic in preparation for a paint job or tile or wallpaper application.

Perhaps the most important parts of the house that need to be covered are the doors and windows. The paint marks on these are extremely unsightly and would need further treatment just to remove them. Anti-static and fire retardant plastic film can be wrapped around the door and on the panes and window frames to prevent paint from staining them.
