What are electronic tickets and how are they beneficial?

Most airlines around the world offer electronic tickets or e-tickets. One of the main benefits that an electronic ticket offers is that it does not require a paper ticket/registration as confirmation of your flight. Confirmation of your trip resides in the airlines’ computerized ticketing system in electronic format.

An e-ticket offers the following advantages: You do not need to carry a paper ticket with you while traveling and therefore you are not afraid of losing or forgetting it. Since they exist in electronic format, you don’t have to wait for your ticket to arrive in the mail. You can use your e-ticket at self-service check-in machines, avoiding long queues at manual check-in counters. (Offered by most airlines) You can also print your boarding pass and track your airline miles (if applicable) using these automated machines.

To use this service you will need the following means of identification:

The credit card used to purchase your tickets.
Traveler loyalty card.
An electronic ticket receipt.
You will need to confirm the airline reference number provided at the time of booking.

Please note that some airlines still issue paper tickets for certain flights in certain sectors. If you receive a paper ticket (a card/voucher ticket in a wallet), you must present it at the airport check-in counter or you will not be able to board your flight.
