13 Myths and Psychic Realities – Dare to Think Differently

Myth: Psychics read your mind at all times.

Done:

Psychic readers can read your mind if we focus our intention on doing so; however, if we did that to everyone all the time, we would burn out and need mental health assistance. I personally am not interested in that! Also, any professional reader will ask your permission instead of invading your privacy. Having said that, some things like intuition and face reading become automatic, but one normally tunes in for short periods of time and only when needed. Also, if someone doesn’t want to be read to, they can’t, it’s that simple.

Myth:

Psychic readers know everything about the person, right down to the color of the underwear they are wearing or what they had for breakfast.

Done:

Psychic readers often target specific areas of concern which are often decided by the person receiving a reading. In some cases, a person (also called a caretaker or seeker) just wants to be “read”, in which case it is often general information that the psychic sees and then interprets into general or specific knowledge for the caretaker. In addition, the qualities of the perceptions depend on the question and the energetic openness of the sitter to the reader.

Myth:

Readers will tell you something horrible like you’ll have an accident or die.

Done:

Professional readers have a code of ethics that they read by, and that usually doesn’t include telling people about things they can’t control or are psychically harmful to know. My rule of thumb is this: Does it add value and benefit the person to know? If so, and it’s not against code, I’ll tell you and then give you ideas on how to improve a challenging situation.

Myth:

Psychic readers are con artists.

Done:

Professional readers are interested in providing a valuable service that helps a person and does not scam them. As with many things, vulnerable and desperate people and those who don’t want to work or take responsibility for their lives are the most susceptible to fraud. I say put scammers out of business by taking ownership of your life, and in my practice, I turn away vulnerable people and redirect them to crisis centers or other help.

Myth:

Psychic readers are fake and often use cold reading techniques.

Done:

Professional readers are often able to read body language, facial expressions and parts, hairstyles, and clothing styles because they have a genuine interest in understanding, observing, and getting to know others. Cold reading is often used on its own (ie face reading) or in combination with other reading tools (tarot, astrology, palm, etc.). Cold reading can also be used for icebreakers (building rapport) or for illustrative purposes (relating perceptions of reading to what is seen visually). Also, everyday “normal” people use cold reading techniques in everyday transactions with others without paying much attention to it. Cold reading techniques help people establish rapport and get along with others. So-called fraudulent psychic readers use these techniques to intentionally defraud others.

Myth:

A psychic isn’t real unless he can read without being asked questions.

Done:

A psychic can pick up missing facts about a person, but it usually takes a concentrated effort to read another person and that person needs to open up to the reading without evidence for anything of value to come out of the reading. Professional readers will want to know “specific” questions that a model wants answered because they could be out there all day picking up missing facts or “psychic debris” that have no relevance or meaning to the model. This is just wasted time. Also, as mentioned before, psychics and readers are basically performers. They receive data and interpret it into something meaningful and practical for the caregiver to understand and relate to the response. Your question lays the groundwork for interpretation. If there is no doubt, the answer is likely to be general.

Myth:

All readers are psychics.

Done:

Some readers are not psychics; however, all psychics are readers. Being a psychic means that you have heightened senses beyond the norm. A reader is someone who has knowledge of an ancient scientific tool and can interpret a result, but does not necessarily make intuitive leaps when interpreting data obtained from a reading tool such as tarot, astrology, numerology, palmistry, handwriting etc The tools of the psychic senses include: clairvoyance (sight), clairvoyance (hearing), clairvoyance (feeling), clairvoyance (taste/smell), and clairvoyance (knowing). Psychics plug into the “universal mind” (without having to study a system), pick things up, and interpret the results. Readers study a system, collect things, and interpret the results.

Myth:

Psychic readers shouldn’t charge money for what they do because it’s a gift and it’s spiritual.

Done:

Professional readers offer a valuable service that others benefit from. Although it may be a gift, many people have gifts: athletes, actors, doctors, psychologists, etc. Since we live in a society that requires us to use money to survive, we need to earn a living, so why not use our gift? If we don’t, then we are wasting our gift and that doesn’t make any sense. As far as it being spiritual, if I were living in conditions where I was supported financially (ie religious workers, living in a monastery, etc.) I wouldn’t need to worry about making a living. And if I were to live that lifestyle, I would also probably be less available to the general public, as my focus would be only on spirituality and I would be less concerned with the everyday mundane, and some may say superficial aspects of life.

Myth:

All psychics or readers know the past, the present and the future.

Done:

Not all psychics or readers have the same ability or interest. Retrocognition (past), cognition (present), and precognition (future) are areas that a psychic or reader can guess at and it is up to her ability and interest as to how well, if at all, they can do it.

Myth:

A reading is engraved in stone.

Done:

Most professional readers believe in a combination of free will and destiny. Free will allows you the freedom to do what you want and change course. Fate is something that just happens to you and there is no way around it. A reader is just like any other tipster (weather, sports, and stocks, for example). We look at past performance and present conditions to guess at a “likely” future outcome; however, free will or intervention (divine or otherwise) can affect the prognosis. And that’s the curveball that means no reader is 100% accurate.

Myth:

The readings are for fortune-telling purposes only.

Done:

The readings can be used for personality analysis, strategizing or a brainstorming tool, an objective point of view, meditation, mediation and arbitration, decision making, visualization of options, healing, brainstorming and idea generation, past life analysis, dream manifestation, dream analysis, mediumship, history. development, planning, psychic/intuitive development, love and relationship diagnosis, career and employment counseling, broadening experience, understanding people, society, self and situations, or a short-term, affordable alternative to counseling services advice, counseling and/or consultancy without a license.

Myth:

Psychic readers (also known as fortune tellers) are old, gray-haired, unattractive women who read in dark and mysterious (and maybe creepy) living rooms or home spaces that have a lot of old and strange things on display. They also have a crystal ball or a selection of strange picture cards that they hold with their long fingers and painted nails. With a scarf on their heads, maybe around their shoulders, with jewelry (beads and/or coins around their necks, bracelets around their wrists, lots of rings and hoop earrings), they are silent but penetrating and see through our soul telling us all kinds of profound and momentous news and omens that make us sick.

Done:

While some such reader types exist, modern psychic readers often have an office every day or read over the phone, email, instant messages, or (recorded) postal mail when reading for one person during a private session. They may or may not see seekers in person, and when they do, it may be in a regular office space, cafe, or at a special event within their home, office, restaurant, spa, or trade show. Also, readers look like anyone and everyone. They can be young, socially beautiful, full of life and vitality, lively and trendy looking, your next door neighbor, a sporty man or mom. That being said, some readers, like the readers of (3ofcups.ca), go to great lengths to look good, as it adds sparkle, atmosphere, and excitement to an event.

Myth:

Testing a psychic will prove their accuracy.

Done:

When a builder builds a wall it is to keep things out. If a caretaker intentionally builds a wall and is a very good builder, the psychic will not be able to penetrate it. Psychics, to my knowledge, are not omnipotent paranormal beings. When a psychic gives a reading it is an exchange of energy; it is a give and take activity.

The readings are not meant to be a fun trick, although they are entertaining (hey, someone is talking about me!). Genuine psychics do not like to be tested because they are not magicians or trying to play tricks and can rarely give an accurate reading when tested. Psychics aren’t interested in matching wits or playing mind games, although mentalists like that. Psychics want to provide seekers or caregivers with valuable information that leaves the caregiver feeling great!

Giving false information can confuse the psychic, turning them off and making them anxious, which can leave a bad vibe. It is a poor way to assess a psychic who has a genuine interest in helping others. Now some psychics (such as through 3 of Cups) focus on being entertainment, but there is still etiquette to be aware of when getting a special event reading.

When a keeper entertains themselves by misleading, confusing or holding back while getting a reading, they are being unproductive and negative and probably shouldn’t get a reading from a genuine psychic. If a caretaker is “preoccupied” with giving information instead of just getting a reading or asking questions, he is doing himself AND the reader a disservice, as his energy is not open and the reader is getting muddy information. Of course at 3 of Cups Psychic Event Entertainment www.3ofcups.ca we are used to testers and many of us read very well and enjoy those conditions but what I am saying here is: it is largely inappropriate and doesn’t really test anything . .

It’s hard enough to do a real reading when someone is open, let alone trying to sift through a dumpster of psychic debris. Therefore, testing a psychic proves nothing more than the nanny behaving in an unkind way towards another human being and themselves, this is especially true for special events when the atmosphere should generally be positive and uplifting. Guests, testing psychics, can put a humid atmosphere at an event. So if you know you have a lot of guests who are skeptical and want to have fun putting the psychic to the test, try a mentalist or let the psychic know ahead of time so she can decide if that’s the setting she wants to be entertained in.
