Are you looking for part-time work? Create your own!

I have come to believe that if you are looking for a part-time job, the best option is to create your own. If you let others create the work, there really aren’t many options available. And the ones you can find don’t add up to much when it comes to salary.

So why not create your own part-time job? I can’t help but feel like there are tons of opportunities, if we create them ourselves.

Paintwork- I have found that carpenters generally do not have the patience to paint. It is a task that I have seen outsourced on many occasions, which creates opportunities for a motivated person. Armed with a brush and roller, the low initial cost of painting can be very attractive. When starting out, the key is to find those small jobs that many of the larger institutions don’t want to bother with and go from there!

Landscaping- There is a lot of potential work when it comes to our yards. Seasonal cleanups, lawn care, planting, and weeding can be a way to earn a little extra income. Even during the winter, one could offer services like snow removal or even home winterization.

Housekeeping- For those who care about keeping to a particular schedule, a cleaning service aimed at the right market can be a great option. Those who only want to work a few hours a day while the kids are at school can find success in residential cleaning. For those looking for a couple of hours at night, a commercial cleaning service is best.

Play music- Playing an instrument can be a great way to earn some money while doing something you really enjoy. Playing in a band is fun, but remember, you split your earnings for the night and you are at the mercy of the band. Whether you play alone or with others, playing music can be a great way to earn at least a few hundred dollars a month.

Start a website- This is by far my favourite. You can share the things you enjoy, work on them whenever you want, and you don’t have to go anywhere to do it. It’s a skill that can be learned at your own pace and you can eventually share your knowledge locally, for a price. Certain dangers are inherent when working online from home, but learn some simple programming techniques and be persistent, and building a website may be the most fun you can have “working.”

Be creative!- There really are countless options when it comes to earning a few extra bucks. Offer a Christmas decoration removal service or sell seedlings in the spring. Start a pet sitting or pet sitting service. If you really look, there is often the possibility of monetizing even the simplest things.

So when you’re looking for a part-time job, remember that everyone has a skill someone is willing to pay for. It’s simply a matter of finding that skill and effectively marketing it to the right audience.

Some services may require licenses or involve other forms of regulation. Please do your due diligence and use common sense!
