Bullyland Lambeosaurus Dinosaur Model Review

The second dinosaur model unveiled by Bullyland this year is a replica of the massive late Cretaceous duck-billed dinosaur known as Lambeosaurus. The model has been added to the German company’s “Prehistoric Life” range of replicas and figures and the Lambeosaurus is currently the only member of the Hadrosaur family represented in the range.

One of the largest Hadrosaur Lambeosaurs, or to be more precise, one of the largest known Lambeosaurs in North America, Lambeosaurus is famous for having an “ax-shaped” crest on its head. In this new replica, the crest of the head is painted scarlet, which contrasts nicely with the blue back and the softer brown and tan hues on the flanks and tail.

Four-legged pose of a herbivorous animal

Although considered as an optional bipedal, that is, an animal that normally walked on all fours but could, if it wanted, resort to a bipedal posture, the Lambeosaurus figure has perched in a very dynamic position. The model balances on three legs, with the right hind leg raised off the ground if this dinosaur walks or even jogs. This is a very unusual pose for such a replica, most duck-billed dinosaur toys tend to stand in a bipedal position with their long tail resting on the ground. This 2014 new addition to the Bullyland range has its long, narrow tail clear of the ground.

Fine details can be done

Many fine details can be distinguished, the beak, for example, is wide and spatulate in shape. This accurately reflects the known fossil material. The eyes are correctly positioned on the skull and you can even make out the small holes on the side of the head that made up the ears of this dinosaur. The figure measures a fraction of less than ten inches long from that long tail raised from the ground to the tip of this dinosaur’s wide beak.

Hand painted by Bullyland

The German manufacturer would like to point out that all the replicas they make on this particular model series are hand painted and that the paint and finish on this prehistoric herbivorous animal are excellent. The size of this figure means it works well with other Bullyland made dinosaur models such as their Tyrannosaurus Rex and the very rare Ankylosaurus and Pachycephalosaurus models.

Overall, this is a well-crafted figure, depicting this large member of the ornithischian dinosaurs as a dynamic, active, and fast-moving animal. We recommend this model to both collectors of prehistoric animal models and fans of dinosaurs. If Bullyland applies a similar policy to this Lambeosaurus as it has to other figures, this model will soon be retired, making it highly collectible and prized.
