Easy Foil Packet Pasta Recipes Perfect for Foodie Campers

While it’s true that campers should choose to cook simple meals like soup and sandwiches when outdoors, sometimes you can go the extra step to enjoy delicious and hearty meals even when camping.

Foil packet dinners are becoming more and more popular with campers recently because they are not only easy to prepare, but they are also incredibly satisfying. Now foodies can enjoy their favorite pasta dishes even when kitchen utensils are limited!

Here are 2 easy pasta recipes in foil packets that you must try:

Foil Package Shrimp Aglio Olio

What do you need:

  • 1 kg. jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined

  • 1.2kg. linguine pasta

  • 1/2 cup olive oil

  • 1/2 cup of white wine

  • 3 small tomatoes

  • 4 garlic cloves, minced

  • chopped fresh parsley

  • Red pepper flakes, to taste

  • salt and pepper to taste

  • 1/2 lemon

Make this at home the day before your camping trip: cook the pasta for half the recommended cooking time. Drain and reserve. Heat the olive oil over medium heat in a large pot, then sauté the garlic for 1 minute. Add the wine and tomatoes to the pot, season with salt and pepper, then cook for 10 minutes.

Remove mixture from heat and place on a large piece of heavy-duty aluminum foil. Top with shrimp. Place the half-cooked pasta over the shrimp, and then wrap them with aluminum foil in a packet.

Once at the camp, cook on the fire for 15 minutes or until the shrimp and pasta are cooked. Drizzle with a little olive oil and squeeze lemon over the pasta. Mix before serving.

Wholemeal Goat Cheese and Tomato Pasta

What do you need:

  • 1/2 kilo whole wheat spaghetti, cooked (subtract 1-2 minutes from the recommended cooking time)

  • 6 roma tomatoes, seeded and chopped

  • 1 lemon, cut into 6 wedges

  • 3 garlic cloves, finely chopped

  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves, coarsely chopped

  • 1/2 cup of fresh goat cheese

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

This recipe creates 6 packets/servings of pasta, great for sharing with other campers. Prepare 12 8×12-inch pieces of heavy-duty aluminum foil (use 2 for each package). In a large bowl, combine the pasta, tomatoes, garlic, basil, olive oil, salt, and pepper.

Divide the pasta among 6 packets. Squeeze a slice of lemon and spoon a few teaspoons of the goat cheese into each packet, then fold tightly into a packet. At camp, cook the packets on a grill over the fire for 10 to 12 minutes, shaking the packets halfway through cooking.
