FC Barcelona received illegal state aid

The European Court of Justice has dismissed the Catalan top club’s appeal against a Commission decision on illegal Spanish state aid.

In 2016, the European Commission labeled the special tax regime of four Spanish professional clubs – FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Osasuna (Pamplona) and Athletic Club Bilbao – as illegal state aid and ordered Spain to stop the scheme and recover the aid.

But FC Barcelona appealed and in 2019 the General Court of the European Union overturned that decision as null and void.

Definitely rejected
