File Showcase or File Sharing?

Should we encourage software that checks for duplicate files for us, that cleans our system like a wet nurse? In this age of file sharing, why aren’t our software programmers developing programs that make it easy to share files and lose our memory that way, instead of spending, sorry to waste, our time looking for files we had forgotten about anyway? So does it really bother us to find them again?

As an example, the files that these programs really care about are media files, which take up a significant amount of storage space and can really slow down our computers, not some text documents that we’ve forgotten about. The point of putting them on our computers is to save them for posterity, display them and save them for future generations, but inevitably some of them slip through the net.

Instead of making us think of erasing our precious memories, though, why doesn’t someone come up with a program that will take those photos and put them on a shared platform, a network where family and friends can view the photos? In fact, I don’t care if the whole world sees them, why doesn’t someone create a networking site just for photos? Who doesn’t like to look at photos? Venture capitalists are flocking to fund the latest networking site, the latest is a dating website that allows him to post a message about a girl he saw on the train. Great! If they can get funds for that, they can get funds for anything.

In fact, I’m going to do it myself. I’m going to devise a photo networking platform and present it to Dragon’s Den or American Inventor and/or anyone else who wants to listen. I don’t want to lose files, I want to win files! Send me all your junk files! Instead of letting your program check for duplicate files and then get rid of them, why not send them to me? I will create a website, a Room 101 for files that nobody wants! It will be the most popular website in the world!

Well, I may be going crazy, but so are all the computer programmers who think we really care about a few files when computer manufacturers are making computers all the time with more memory. Instead of inventing solutions to problems that don’t exist, talk to each other, instead of duplicating your efforts!
