Martha’s Vineyard is a great choice for your next vacation rental.

With the addition of a young child to our family, packing for the holidays has taken on a whole new meaning. We no longer just pack a couple of suitcases and walk out the airport gate. Now, with a young child, it’s making sure you have the 1000 items you need to survive every day, like toys, snacks, food, what seems like your entire wardrobe, and bibs to name a few.

What we also find is that not all places offer high chairs, cribs or changing tables, which are all the necessities of a baby. We found out the hard way. My wife and I made some adjustments to our vacation and are now looking to rent houses instead of hotels, motels, or inns.

Here’s a place my wife and I love to visit that may make a lot of sense to you, too.

MARTHA’S VINEYARD

Located not far from Boston is Martha’s Vineyard. Home to many of the elite like Bill Murray and of course the Kennedys to name a few, Martha’s Vineyard boasts wonderful breathtaking views, clean beaches and friendly people.

Since I stayed there I can absolutely say that I love the place. The island is easy to navigate and has something for everyone. If you like to fish, there are plenty of marinas to charter a boat to get your fix. If swimming is more your thing than anywhere you see the beach, there you have it. There are plenty of good restaurants to choose from too if you like to dine out.

In addition to all the amenities that Martha’s Vineyard has to offer, it is a great place to rent a home. There are many to choose from and depending on where you stay the cost varies drastically. We stayed at Vineyard Haven about 3 miles outside of Oaks Bluff. The house was a three bedroom ranch with two full baths and an outside deck that we took full advantage of. Every morning we would sit on the terrace with a hot cup of coffee and a nice cooked breakfast before starting our day.

The house accommodated everything we needed and the best part is that it was close enough to the grocery store that we could walk and pick up our supplies. It was a little more expensive than normal, but we expected that since we were on an island.

The house came with a charcoal grill which was great and which we used for many of our meals. It had a washer and dryer for our clothes our son needed with all the dirty bibs and close by as well as doing our own laundry so we didn’t have to when we got home.

The cost to rent this particular house was around $1500 per week during peak summer time, which is from late June to late August, and around $700 off peak. We rented the house the week after Labor Day. We paid the $700 price tag, the water was still warm, everything was still open, so this trip was a real bargain.

If you have young children and are looking for a nice getaway, consider Martha’s Vineyard, and more specifically, consider renting a home. The flexibility it gives you is second to none.
