Review of Garden of Salt and Stone

Author AL Burgess Jr. weaves a unique and compelling dark fantasy story, with intriguing twists and turns that will easily captivate the reader’s attention from the start. The author paints a supernatural story full of adventure and action in a very vivid and compelling way. Also, the characters are drawn with great credibility and conviction. It is a fast-paced novel that will keep you hooked from the first page to the last.

The book’s description offers a misleading preview; ‘Meet Peter Andrews, a dogmatic history professor who deals only with the material pitfalls of the physical universe. If he can’t see or touch something, then it almost certainly doesn’t exist or can’t exist. For him, musings about the supernatural are nothing more than the surreptitious intrusion of a mind bent on creating abstract thoughts to calm fears about the inevitable outcome we all must face…

But the musings of our main protagonist, Peter Andrews, are now over as he comes face to face with his own mortality. He now finds himself in a world where angels draw swords from their scabbards that burst into flame ready to fight demons for the fate of humanity. We also meet Lilith, a character obscurely mentioned in the Bible, who is given a new lease on life. The way her character is incorporated into this story is exciting and thought-provoking when you consider Eden’s original story. A famous historical figure and a monk with a holy book that cannot be deciphered also play a pivotal role in this mystical mystery.

Captivating and commendable, this work had me immersed from the start. The story flowed from scene to scene with ease, and the author shows exceptional skill when it comes to storytelling. There are plenty of attention-grabbing moments in this page turner that will take the reader on a truly fascinating journey!

It is one of those books that appear from time to time and that makes you want to read it non-stop until you reach the end. I am not giving anything further here. And this, I hope, will only add to the mystery and enjoyment for the reader.

Now, if what I’ve said above isn’t enough to whet your appetite, I don’t know what will. But if you want to know what’s going on, you’ll just have to turn the pages yourself! However, I will say that it was worth the read. This is the first time I read this author and I must say that he impressed me a lot.

If this book is anything to go by, I certainly look forward to reading more of AL Burgess in the future. I would definitely recommend this book and would love to see it adapted for the big screen. I honestly think it would be a great movie. Five stars from me.
