Some of the biggest family movies coming out in May, June and July

One of my fondest memories of when my daughters were young is watching the big summer blockbusters. We did a day, lunch, movie and then dessert talking about how much fun we just had. Even though they are all grown up now, I still look forward to the upcoming summer movies. This year is as good as any, check it out with me to see what the early part of summer has in store for families.

Thanks to Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, summers at the movies start in the first week of May, since 2008. This year is no different, on May 2, 2013 we will see the return of the narcissistic but lovable Tony Stark in Marvel’s . Iron Man 3. The trailers for this movie are phenomenal. We know that this movie takes place right where Marvel’s Avengers left off. As we see in the most recent trailer. Tony Stark, (brilliantly played by Robert Downey, Jr.) has some emotional demons to deal with. We see him finally admitting how much he cares for the lovable Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow). He also has to deal with a very powerful villain, The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley). We see a lot of action and adventure that we not only expect from an Iron Man movie, but have come to expect from a Marvel movie. This seems to have it all, a smart and funny family movie of good versus evil.

Up next, in May 2013, we have the explosive action thriller ‘Star Trek’ from director JJ Abrams; In the dark. Trailers in the United States lacked the action and excitement of this movie originally. Today, April 16, 2013, all that changed. An amazing and exciting trailer has just been released. At first, our hero, Captain James T. Kirk (Chris Pines), is advised not to go after the villain. Then we see a war that takes us to our planet earth. Which is exploding, then we’re back in space where we’d expect to find a Star Trek movie. This is really going to take off as a really fun family movie.

In June we can get ready to start our summer quarter at Disney/Pixar’s Monsters University. Monster’s Inc. is one of those great classic movies that I talked about in the recap. It had heart, laughs and action. Since its first film, Pixar has shown us the difference between a family movie and a children’s movie, family movies have something for everyone on different levels. Pixar has been criticized because its latest releases don’t live up to its previous classics. Well, the trailer for this one shows that they’re back to basics, it’s going to be a lot of fun. We see everyone’s favorite one-eyed green hero, Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal), on his first day of college. He discovers that his roommate is none other than the lovable boyfriend-to-be, James P. Sullivan (John Goodman). They start competing to be MU upper part frighten and mixed in we have some really fun college shenanigans. The plot itself is unclear, but the trailer shows that getting there will be more than half as much fun.

We also have the hero of heroes in an awesome reboot, also this June. Yes, we’re talking about Superman in “Man of Steel,” in this trailer that also just dropped today. We’re looking at a secret Superman. Mysteriously saving people, he has a very dark costume and discovers that the big “S” never really meant “Superman”. So you can also enjoy this trailer and the movie also looks just as fun.

Then on July 3, we have two more great movies to watch. We’ll see the animated sequel Despicable Me 2 and Disney’s live-action The Lone Ranger. In Despicable Me 2, we see the return of our favorite villain, Gru (Steve Carell), those adorable girls and very funny minions. This time as we see in the most recent trailer Gru He is the hero hired by the anti-villain league to hunt down a more dangerous villain bent on destroying the planet. In The Lone Ranger, we have a photo of friends with everyone’s favorite chameleon, Johnny Depp, as Toro and Army Hammer in the title role. This is also a fun action movie judging from its action-packed trailer. The trailer tells us that the Lone Ranger has a special power and cannot die in battle. The trailer continues to show a fun relationship between our heroes.
