Stress Management Techniques: Keep It Simple

What kind of animal are you? Are you an excited pit bull terrier on a short leash, or an excitable cocker spaniel on a run, or maybe you are a poodle or a pussycat? It’s okay. The point is, if you look more like a pit bull, you might have a problem and it may be a good idea to get your stress levels back under control.

Stress from friends and family

You have to love them, right? It is not like this? Well anyway they are here to stay and what is the point of discussions and confrontations – you could also bang your head against a brick wall! If you know that when you see these particular people, there will be a problem, try a change in routine. For example, if you visit them regularly, do it the other way around or better yet meet them in some public place: the park, the restaurant, anywhere for a change. Also, we are more inclined to behave better when we are in public. If you really can’t cope with any form of conversation, try theater!

It is always a good idea to have your own transportation so that you are in control of your exit strategies and are not at the mercy of others to drive you home.

Stress from work

Unfortunately, it’s not that easy to avoid stress at work, perhaps more so now than ever. However, an important point to note here is that you have to remember that you are there for the money, and that is what pays the bills and puts the food on the table.

If unreasonable deadlines are causing you stress, consider the following;

– “You can’t do more than a day’s work!” –

So if you are doing your best to accomplish the tasks assigned to you, your boss will be aware of that fact. The truth is, the people in charge are also under pressure to get more out of their employees and will push as hard as they can. Usually those in sales are given targets to hit, but once they are met they are given an even higher target for the next quarter.

Money problems

Among the main causes of stress is time spent worrying about finances. Nothing new here, the problem has existed since the invention of money. Fortunately for us in the West, economic difficulties, while difficult, do not mean hunger. It seems that whether we have no money or a plentiful supply of things, we still seem to worry about how much more we need. If you are unable to meet your financial obligations;

– Write how much money you owe and to whom.

– Update all your accounts.

– Stop paying luxuries!

– Talk to your creditors and explain the situation to them.

– Consult a financial advisor; make sure it’s a free interview.

– Take action today.

If possible, try to keep your stress levels under control by acknowledging the situations that are stressful to you. Examine the details and establish what is the worst that can happen. We spend a good chunk of our time worrying about things that never happen, or if they happen, it is usually not as bad as we had imagined.

Don’t let stress ruin your life, and think long and hard before paying for advice, it’s cheaper if you handle it yourself. As Mae West once said, “You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.”
