The motivational power of SPITE

The term spite is generally used quite negatively. Look up its definition and it’s full of negative and ugly words like malicious and spiteful. However, I think there is another side to spite. I believe that people can embrace spite and use it to motivate themselves. Take a minute and really think about everyone who has doubted you, everyone who has laughed at your dreams. Think of all the people laughing behind your back. How you feel? I do not feel anger or shame, I feel the need to annoy these people. I want to prove them wrong! Turn that negative energy (aka grudge) into positive motivation!

In my world, spite means one thing:

Ssuccessfully

Pwandering

Idiots

They they are

mewrong

That may sound harsh, but if someone doubts you, what choice do you have? I’ve had people literally laugh at my dreams. Some people have told me that I will never make it. I know that people doubt me all the time. If I don’t label such people as idiots, then I am giving credit to their feelings and opinions. In my mind, you doubt me, you are an idiot. Nothing will please me more than proving you wrong. I’ll rub your nose too!

Go SPITE!

It may be a nasty word used for nasty reasons, but the motivation I get from proving people wrong is powerful. I have listened to many personal development speakers and this is a topic that they do not touch on enough. It’s all about positive thoughts. Think positive, be positive, don’t focus on the negative. The thought is that negative thinking will bring negative energy. What about the concept of yin and yang? Have people ever wondered if we need a dark side, or an edge, to balance our positive energy?

The reality is that negative motivation is as powerful as it is positive. Look at professional sports. A team that has made the playoffs and lost a couple of close series is much better and motivated next season. The LA Lakers were demolished by the Celtics in 2008, since then they have won two titles. Kobe Bryant, who brought them there, has spent years trying to show people that he can win without Shaq. Michael Jordan expressed the grudge he felt for his high school teacher that had led him to one of the best careers in sports history.

If you’ve been trying to stay positive, have used your daily affirmations, and have noticed that your career and life results have stalled, maybe a splash of SPITE is exactly what you need!
