Guide on how to make a refrigerator door handle cover

Your solid-color or stainless steel refrigerator doesn’t have to look boring all the time. In fact, you can do a lot of things to make it look quite interesting. One of the ideas you might want to try is to create a door handle cover. This should help protect your refrigerator from fingerprints.

Here are the steps on how you can do this project:

1. Buy your materials first. You need to buy a yard of fabric. Choose the type of fabric that adheres well to the door handle. Silk might not be a good choice as it tends to sag and slip. A good fleece or felt fabric might work best for this project. Choose one with a design that can complement your kitchen design.

If you have an unworn dress with a nice and attractive fabric, you can also use it. Recycling is definitely recommended for this project. In addition to the fabric, you will also need your tape measure, thread in the same color as your fabric, pins and needles, a pair of scissors, and hook-and-loop fasteners or hook-and-loop fasteners. If you have a sewing machine, you can use it to make your job easier.

2. Fold the fabric in half. Leave about 3 inches of margin from the fold and cut a strip about 26 inches from there. Unfold the strip of fabric and place the patterned side down. If you are using a sewing machine, prepare the thread. On the short edges of the strip of fabric, sew about an inch of hem. For the longest edge, sew a half inch from the hem. If your fabric is a little stiff and you’re having trouble sewing the hem because it keeps coming open, you can try pressing it in first. Use a steam iron to iron the fabric.

3. Attach the velcro or hook and eye closure. Attach them on the long side of the strip. A Velcro strip should work best, as it’s easier to attach to the refrigerator door handle. If you are using a hook and eye closure, mark the areas where you are going to attach them. In this way, they are parallel to each other.

4. Beautify if necessary. You can try adding lace details to the hems of the fabric. You can just use fabric glue to attach the lace accent. You can also add fabric jewels or stones for additional decoration. Embroidery is also a good option.

5. Now try to fit the door handle cover.
