A look at the Samsung Genio Slide

The Genio Slide is Samsung’s latest addition to its successful Genio range.

The Genius slide is aimed at younger consumers. It has a 2.8-inch full touch screen plus a QWERTY keyboard that slides out and is used horizontally, giving the user the best of both worlds. It has a 3-megapixel digital camera that comes complete with geotagging, autofocus, and smile detection. This is a cool feature that automatically detects a smile in a photo and will focus on that subject instead of something not as relevant to the image. The Genio also includes a microSD card slot that supports up to a 16GB card, an FM radio, and video capture at up to 30 frames per second.

The phone comes complete with social networking facilities that allow access to sites like Facebook. Myspace and Twitter. One of the features that immediately attracted me to the phone is its built-in access to BBC iPlayer. BBC iPlayer is an on-demand TV and radio service that lets you catch up on programming you’ve missed. This shows how the Genio Slide presents itself as an entertainment phone rather than a high-powered smartphone. The Genius slide is Wi-Fi enabled for those who want fast and efficient and has built in GPS. It includes an excellent web browser and you can easily zoom in and out of the web page using the tap to zoom feature. This smartphone supports email, mms, sms and instant messaging. IM allows the user to have a text conversation with contacts who are online at the same time as them. With its interchangeable front and back covers, it will appeal to a younger audience.

The Samsung Genio Slide is a black device that measures 105mm high, 56.8mm wide and 15.7mm deep and weighs 135 grams, the same as Apple’s iPhone. The Genio Slide display features a QVGA TFT touchscreen that measures 2.8 inches and has a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. The accelerometer sensor allows you to easily switch between landscape and portrait mode. The phone has an internal memory of 120 MB, voice dialing, voice memo, bluetooth and a microUSB port. Thanks to EDGE technology, users can transfer data to another device via the USB port or Bluetooth. This can be done quickly and efficiently. It supports 3.5G technology, which ultimately results in faster download times for the phone.

Like many of Samsung’s previous models, the Genio Slide will naturally appeal to the younger smartphone audience. This is due to its elegant design and ease of use. The social networking capabilities also add to its appeal. However, Genio has enough technology behind the scenes to appeal to a broader spectrum of consumers as well.
