Do ESL students have the opportunity to study medicine?

ESL students encounter many difficulties with communication in English. As an ESL student, I know the difficulties of going through interviews, communicating with superiors, or traveling to English-speaking countries. I have been neglected so many times as an ESL student.

I was surprised to learn the truth that ESL students become doctors too. GAMSAT provides the opportunity even for non-science and ESL students to study medicine. So I was curious to know more about GAMSAT. I would like to share the details I got about GAMSAT. In particular, I would like to help ESL students who are struggling with section 2. These tips would help them get good grades in section 2.

What is Section 2?

GAMSAT has been divided into three sections. Section 1 assesses your thinking ability in Humanities and Social Sciences. Section 2 assesses your written communication skills in English and Section 3 assesses your reasoning ability in Science.

Section 2 is designed to assess candidates’ English proficiency. Doctors should be able to interpret the results quickly in English. So you need to get a good score in Section 2 to apply to popular medical colleges.

In Section 2, you will be given 2 sets of quotes. 2 essays should be written based on the citations. Vocabulary, grammar, and sentence formation are required to write effective essays.
