How to create your first website without HTML knowledge

In this article I am not going to teach you how to create a first-class design. Instead, I’m going to show you how to design your first website without any knowledge of HTML.

If you’ve never designed a website before, it might sound like a tough job. Don’t worry, if you can work with Microsoft Word, you can create an easy website too. There are two ways to achieve this goal: the first is classic HTML encoding. The second is using the WYSIWYG editor.

WYSIWYG stands for What you see is what you get. You might be surprised to learn that one of the easiest WYSIWYG editors can be Microsoft Word. You can easily write text, format it, add some images, etc. and then instead of saving the document as a .doc, choose to save as HTML. The source code will look extremely unprofessional to all web designers, but the most important thing is the fact that it works and everyone can do it.

Well now you can create a website very easy and you are probably wondering if there is a way to make a better website using a similar method. You can download some editor like Front Page. The interface is similar to Microsoft Word, but there are many other features specially designed for web developers. These functions are very intuitive so after a few minutes of trying them you will be able to move to the next level of web design.

One of the very useful functions is to switch between WYSIWYG mode and HTML source. As you become more familiar with your WYSIWYG editor, it is likely that sometimes you will need to do something that is not possible in WYSIWYG mode. It is the time when you have to switch every time you change something on the website to HTML mode and learn what was changed in the HTML code. This way you will be able to understand basic HTML very quickly and make some changes to the source code whenever you want.

The next level can be to use some of the many website builders online. You can find some simple website builders that can be used for free, sign up for some service that offers a feature-rich builder, or choose a web hosting company that offers this feature in their web hosting plan. When you decide on one of these solutions, you’ll choose from one of the many layouts offered, choose the color scheme, and add text for each page. Then save your work and your website is done. The benefit of using website builders is professional-looking designs that you’ll probably never create with the WYSIWYG editor. On the other hand, you should keep in mind that the same design will be used by many other webmasters. Therefore, this solution is good for personal or non-commercial websites.

Another way to have your own website is free templates. There are hundreds of free designs that can be downloaded for free as long as you leave the author link in the footer. When you download your favorite design, open it in your browser, right-click it and use the View Source option. Now edit the text on the page, and when you’re done, save it and publish it.
