If you have a sense of humor, prepare to smile. These sayings are from the deep south.

1. Hinny – Your butt. Usage example: “Stop doing that or I’ll row to your brothel!”

It’s only an expression. As far as I know, this task is impossible to perform.

8. About to explode: This saying describes being full after eating a great southern meal.

Usage example: “No, I don’t want food anymore, I’m about to explode.”

10. You may want horns, but you may die with your head bowed – this means you may want something, but you may never get it. I think this saying is easy to understand.

A child is often told that he asks for the moon.

11. Wait until the cows come home – This saying means that you could be waiting quite a long time. Usage example: “Wow, could you wait until the cows get home for that phone to ring.” In the south, cows often return home shortly before dark, but sometimes they get confused and stay in pastures, woods, or fields instead of returning to the barn area to feed. You never know, with cows. They can go home or not.

12. Hit the bushes – To go to the bathroom. Example of use: “I’m going to stop the car and you can hit the bushes.”

13. Heifer – a mean or distant girl. This word also describes a female cow.

Usage example: “I tried to be nice to her, but she’s a heifer.”

14. That dog will hunt: This saying means that he came up with a good plan or a good idea.

Example of use – “Going to the races? That dog is going hunting.”

18. Mind to: this means that the person may or may not do what they are thinking of doing. Example: “I want to kick your bourgeois for doing that!”

19. Fixin: This southern word means getting ready to do something. Usage example: “I’m getting ready to go.”

20. I could never – This southern saying means that if you don’t try, you can’t be successful. Cain’t, a southern word, is a cross between is not, I cannot and the southern word is not.

That is all!

I hope you enjoyed reading these southern sayings as much as I enjoyed writing them.
