New Orleans Saints weaknesses exposed

The New Orleans Saints have definitely come a long way in recent years, but with the problems and losses piling up, it’s becoming increasingly obvious that they have a long way to go, too. Weaknesses in the teams’ offense were hard to see for most of the season, but it seems they have finally been discovered, especially after last week’s 2-12 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

One would have expected the Saints to make the Buccaneers’ job easier considering the season the Buccaneers have had so far. But from the looks of it, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers just played them the same way they’d seen the Cowboys do the week before.

The Saints’ obvious weakness is that they relied too much on one strategy. That’s Drew Brees’ precision when it comes to throwing the ball deep. The strategy that the two teams that have defeated them have taken has been to focus primarily on containing Brees and pressuring him as much as possible.

The only way the Saints could counter the strategy defenses have formed against their offense would be to strengthen their running game. If Reggie Bush could get some extra rushing yards and convince defenses he’s a serious threat, then they’d be forced to try to defend the pass-and-run game.

However, knowing what the New Orleans Saints’ weakness is is only half the battle. The hardest part is using this knowledge against him, something his last two competitors have done successfully. We’ll have a chance to see in the coming weeks if the Saints can make the proper adjustments to their game so they can advance in the postseason. Hopefully they will. It would be a shame if such a good season was wasted.
